+ How accurate is this Test for detecting the Coronavirus (COVID-19)?

This test has a validated sensitivity and a validated specificity of more than 98%. The false positive rate for this test is less than 1% and the false negative rate is 2%. Less than 1% of samples are rejected for contamination or other issues.

To give you the best chance of getting your results, make sure to follow the instructions in your Kit carefully, and do NOT eat drink, smoke, or chew gum for 30 minutes before collection.

+ How does the Test work?

This Test is a rRT-PCR Test for COVID-19, which determines if a patient is currently infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus. PCR Tests are the gold standard testing method with the most accurate sensitivity and specificity currently on the market.

This type of Test is also referred to as the “Molecular Test”, the “Viral RNA Test,” the “Nucleic Acid Test,” or “Molecular Photocopying,” and it is the most accurate way to determine if someone is infected. The sample is taken with a collection kit for saliva, and then RNA from the sample is turned into DNA. The polymerase chain reaction test amplifies (or “copies”) the DNA so that it can be genetically or molecularly analyzed for the genetic material of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. With our lab, results are available in under 48 hours.

This Test is a do-it-yourself at-home Test, but in order to get an accurate result, you must follow the directions in your Kit and in the instructional video carefully.

+ Why should I get tested? Can I get tested if I don’t have any symptoms?

The following criteria recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) helps to conserve limited Tests. Self-isolation is the most effective method of preventing the spread of the virus.

You may get tested if you meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • POSSIBLE EXPOSURE: Are you testing as a safety precaution; do you live in a place where COVID-19 is prevalent; do you have an occupation where you are in close contact with large numbers of people; have you recently been in a crowded place such as a grocery store or shopping mall; AND / OR is there any possibility you might have been exposed to COVID-19?

  • TRAVEL/ORGANIZATION: Are you planning to travel in the near future; have you traveled recently; AND / OR does your school or organization require you to be tested for COVID-19?

  • SYMPTOMS: Are you experiencing ANY of the following? (Cough, loss of taste or smell, shortness of breath, nausea or vomiting, and/or sore muscles)

  • AT RISK: Do you have ANY of the following (Diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, respiratory issues); AND / OR do you live with or frequently interact with people who are older than 60 years of age or who have chronic medical conditions such as cancer, heart disease, COPD, asthma, or immune disorders?

+ Can I purchase a Test for someone else?

Yes, you can purchase Tests for yourself and others. However, each test must be registered individually by the adult taking the test or, if the test is taken by a minor, by their parent or guardian.

+ Can I use my own email and phone number to register multiple Tests?

Yes. You can use the same phone number and email to register multiple Tests as long as you add a patient during step 3 of the Registration process. Each Test must be registered individually by the adult taking the test or, if the test is taken by a minor, by their parent or guardian. Patient information entered during Registration MUST match the person who is being tested. Patient information cannot be changed after the Test Kit has been returned to the laboratory.

+ Does the Test hurt?

This test should not hurt. This is a saliva collection test kit where you spit into the collection tube. Follow the instructions carefully.

+ Can I give the Test to my pet?

No. This test is for humans only.

+ Will this Test tell me if I have already had COVID-19 and recovered? Is this an antibody Test?

No, this is a PCR Test, not an antibody Test. This type of Test will determine with a high level of accuracy whether or not you are currently infected with the COVID-19 virus.

+ Does Biotech Accelerated provide treatment or recommendations for treatment?

Biotech Accelerated does not provide treatment, and we defer to CDC guidelines for recommendations about what to do if you feel sick.

However, we are partnered with a Telehealth provider through our partner Curogram. After you complete your test, Curogram will deliver your results via text message, email, and through their mobile app.

At this point, if you are positive or if you have additional questions regarding your Test or health status, you can easily schedule a telemedicine consultation through the link provided in your test result message.

Telehealth visits are billed to your insurance and do not require a copay from you. If patients do not have insurance, their consults are covered by the CARES Act. Patients can generally be seen within 30 min of requesting a visit between the hours of 9am-6pm PST.

You can also seek medical advice from another healthcare professional. For more information about what to do if you are positive, please see guidelines from the CDC website.
